The Minardi PS04 was a Formula One race car designed and produced by Minardi for the 2004 Formula One season. The PS04 was powered by a naturally aspirated 3.0L V10 Cosworth engine and was designed to comply with the revised technical regulations for the season. The cars chassis was constructed from aluminium honeycomb and featured several aerodynamic innovations including the introduction of a stepped front wing and flank. The revised aerodynamic package was designed by Gustav Brunner. With the uncompetitive Cosworth engine and underfunded finances, the PS04 proved to be an unreliable car, finishing only three races in the 2004 season. The Minardi PS04 was a sleek and aerodynamic design with its smooth front nose and curved wings. The long wheelbase and wider front and rear wings increased the surface area of the car for improved downforce and higher speeds. The engine was moved from within the cockpit to just in front of the driver, which was intended to improve the handling of the car. The extended roll structure offered increased protection to the driver while still providing good visibility. The car featured a pneumatic power steering system, which allowed the steering to be adjusted quickly during a race. The dual-clutch transmission provided smooth and fast downshifts, thus improving lap times. The PS04 also featured an improved suspension system, making it more responsive and agile in corners. The car weighed in at about 605kg, with the weight distributed evenly throughout the car. Throughout the 2004 season, the Minardi PS04 proved to be an unreliable car. Despite numerous improvements, the car failed to reach its full potential, often suffering from engine and tire issues during the race. However, the car was known to have some impressive moments, pushing the limits of performance in races. Ultimately, the PS04 was a radical design for the time and a testament to the Minardi teams ambition and courage.
