The Minardi M187 F1 GP OW 1987 was the third Formula One car designed and built by the Italian team Minardi. This car was meant to be a more serious entry into the Formula One world, and it showed. The car's chassis was formed out of carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb composite material, making it stronger and more rigid than previous Minardi cars. The front and rear wings were made of lightweight carbon fiber composite and featured adjustable flaps for improved performance. The onboard fuel cell was constructed from a blend of Kevlar and carbon fiber for added strength and protection. The M187 was powered by a Ford Cosworth DFZ 3.5-liter V8 engine which was mated to a six-speed Hewland F1 gearbox. The car featured a number of aerodynamic improvements compared to its predecessors, such as raised side-pods, larger air intakes, and a slimmer nose. Lake Air flow was improved through massive side-pods and rear wings, ensuring that the M187 had plenty of grip in the corners. As a complete package, the M187 was a well-rounded machine that could compete with any other car in the sport. Although the car never saw much success in Formula One, due to the underdeveloped Ford engine and limited financial support from Minardi, it helped to shape the sport by ushering in the era of carbon fiber construction and modern aerodynamics.
