The Minardi M198 F1 OW 1998 is a Formula One racing car that was designed by Minardi, a former Italian motor racing team that competed in the FIA Formula One World Championship from 1985-2005. The M198 was used in the 1998 Formula One season and it was the first Minardi to use a Ford V10 engine. The M198 had a steel tubular space frame chassis with a carbon and Kevlar composite body work. The car was powered by a 3-liter, V10 Ford Zetec engine, which produced around 750 hp at 12,500 rpm. It was equipped with a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission and a pneumatic paddle shift system. The M198 had distinct aerodynamic features, including an open nose, a small airbox, double-element side pods and double-element rear wings. It had a high-downforce package with a narrow track and a lower bodywork than its predecessor, the M197. The M198 was fitted with 17-inch BBS alloy wheels, which wrapped around 11-inch Brembo brakes for excellent stopping power. Despite its promising design, the M198 was not able to perform at the highest levels in the '98 season, as Minardi would only achieve a single point throughout the year, finishing in 10th place in the Constructor's Championship.
