The Ligier JS21 F1 OW 1983 is a Formula 1 single-seater car that was designed and developed by Ligier, a French constructor, for the Formula 1 World Championship. Starting its life in the 1983 season, it marked the first major development of the Ligier team in the top flight of Formula 1 and would prove to be a competitive chassis and a fan favourite for its chequered livery. The car itself is a striking sight, sporting a predominantly white and blue paint job that is reminiscent of the Gendarmerie, the French military police. It is relatively low to the ground, stretching only 1113mm at its highest point and weighing just under 600 kilograms. The aerodynamic package makes up a significant portion of the car, with the front wing displaying prominent flaps and louvers used to generate significant levels of downforce. The front of the car also houses a number of vents for cooling, including an air intake for the V6 turbocharged engine with a total power output of around 950 BHP and a maximum rev limit of 13000rpm. The chassis itself is made up of an aluminium monocoque that is manufactured to the highest standards. It is coupled to suspension elements featuring wishbones and push-rod systems at the front with torsion bars in the back. An integral component of the suspension is the driver's helmet which is mounted directly to the chassis, ensuring a snug and secure fit. The interior of the cabin is designed with the driver in mind, featuring bucket seats that are designed to provide maximum comfort and safety, as well as a comprehensive dashboard that provides plenty of feedback to the driver. The engine is also accessible from the inside, allowing technicians to quickly make adjustments on-the-fly. The Ligier JS21 F1 OW 1983 is a reliable and capable machine that offers a solid performance on the track and a great deal of driver satisfaction. It's a car that is still talked of in great admiration by fans of Formula 1 and will always be remembered as one of the most impressive single-seaters from an era of ground-breaking innovation in the sport.
