The Ligier JS43 is an open wheeled Formula One car which was produced by the French automotive manufacturer Ligier in 1996. The car was designed by technical director Gerard Ducarouge, who had previously designed the successful Ligier JS39B. The JS43 was powered by a Ford ED3 V8 engine which produced a maximum power output of 750 bhp and could accelerate from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.7 seconds. The car featured a lightweight but composite steel alloy chassis which helped make the car extremely aerodynamic, allowing it to reach a top speed of over 330 km/h (205 mph). Additionally, the car featured an advanced active suspension and brake system to add to its handling and aerodynamic capabilities. The interior of the car was spacious with plenty of room for maneuverability and safety enhancing features like a front crumple zone and side-impact dampening. The exterior featured a unique blue and wraparound yellow paint scheme, which was sleek and stylish and further defined the car's aerodynamic nature. The Ligier JS43 also featured a signature nosecone, which was designed to improve airflow and reduce drag. Overall, the Ligier JS43 was a powerful and advanced Formula One car which provided exceptional performance and speed for the 1996 F1 season. It was a formidable racing machine with an impressive engine, lightweight and aerodynamic design, and one of the most iconic paint schemes in racing history.
