The Ligier JS17 was a Formula One Grand Prix racing car that debuted in 1981. This machine was designed by longtime F1 engineer, Gerard Ducarouge, and it was a big improvement on its predecessor, the JS16. The JS17 featured a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and state-of-the-art aerodynamics. This beautiful machine also featured a Cosworth DFV 3.0L V8 engine, a Hewland one-piece six-speed manual gearbox, and disc brakes. The overall weight of the JS17 was reduced significantly, down to just 560 kg that included the water, oil, and fuel onboard. The JS17 had earned its place in the top 10 of the fastest cars upon release and continued to dominate on the circuit until Alan Jones and Jacques Laffite took it to the 1982 Constructor's Championship. Although the race car struggled with some issues during the 1981 and 1982 seasons, the improvements made during the latter seasons had allowed the JS17 to stay ahead of the competition. It is fondly remembered by those who witnessed its success in F1 and remains a classic racing car to this day.
