The Tyrrell 008 F1 OW 1978 was a ground-breaking Formula One car released in the 1978 season. This car has been the cornerstone of Tyrrell Racing's successful years, winning their first and only Constructors' Championship in it. The car was designed by Tyrrell Racing's chief designer, Derek Gardner, and had an innovative ground-effect aerodynamics concept. This concept was used to great effect, allowing the car to produce massive amounts of downforce while maintaining a sleek looking body and enough power for high speed. The Tyrrell 008 featured a 1.5-litre Ford Cosworth DFVV8 engine that produced 395 horsepower at 11,500 RPM. It also had a 6-speed Hewland FG400 transmission which allowed the drivers to achieve high levels of performance. The car was constructed from an aluminium-honeycomb monocoque with magnesium side panels and featured adjustable suspension, four wheel discs brakes, and 13-inch tyres. The 008 was an impressive car, with its tight handling, incredible cornering speeds, and controlled lines, allowing it to be successful throughout its short lifespan. The car was reasonably reliable, however, inevitably it showed its age towards the later stages of its career.
