The Trabant 601 Sedan 1985 was a small car produced in East Germany. A true relic of 20th century history, the Trabant 601 was a distinctive looking car with a very peculiar East German design aesthetic. In terms of performance, the Trabant was powered by an 18.5 hp two cylinder, two cycle engine mated to a four speed manual transmission. It was capable of a top speed of 83 mph with an average 0-60 time of 30 seconds. The brakes were what could generously be labeled rudimentary with a single system for both the rear and front discs. On the exterior, the Trabant was boxy and angular with a grill flanked by two rounded headlamps. The roof was topped by a removable plastic sunshade that was a signature feature of the Series 601. The interior featured a spartan cabin with a somewhat basic black vinyl upholstery. The car had only minimal creature comforts, like a two speaker radio and a center mounted speedometer. Ultimately, the most remarkable feature of the Trabant 601 Sedan 1985 was its durability and practicality. Despite being the cheapest new car available in East Germany at the time, the Trabant had a steel unibody chassis and was resilient enough to be a great value and last for many years with proper maintenance and care.
