The Trabant 601 Sedan is a German automobile from the 1960s, produced by East Germany's VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau. Noted for its simple construction, the Trabant 601 included economical components and a two-stroke engine, making it an affordable option for transportation in the communist German Democratic Republic. Externally, the iconic Trabant 601 has a rectangular shape and a flat-top roof, lending to its vintage appeal. The car's body is utilitarian in design, with brushed steel bumpers and hub caps, a grille, and round headlights up front, as well as round taillights in the rear. Featuring a steel unibody construction, the vehicle also has a 1950s-era 4-door sedan body, with a two-tone color – roof and doors in one color, and the body painted in another. Inside, the Trabant is a simple car with few frills. Cushions and fabric upholstery come standard, while the dash features a simple 4-dial instrument cluster with a speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and a warning light panel. The steering wheel is a 3-spoke unit, and the gear lever is situated on the floor. Performance-wise, the Trabant relies on an air-cooled two-stroke engine, which delivers a modest 26 horsepower. It produces a pleasing backfire sound, and although it is slow by modern standards, it has a rugged reliability that makes it a popular classic. The Trabant 601 sedan is also known for its impressive fuel economy, as its compact size contributes to its excellent fuel consumption.
