The Pz.Kpfw. VII Lwe (Lion) was a German super-heavy tank project developed during World War II. It was conceived as a successor to the Tiger II (King Tiger) tank and was intended to be even heavier and more heavily armed and armored. The Lwe project envisioned a tank weighing approximately 90 tons, armed with a 105mm or 128mm main gun and equipped with thick armor plating for protection against enemy fire. It was designed to serve as a breakthrough tank, capable of leading armored assaults and engaging heavily fortified positions. However, despite detailed design work and the production of wooden mock-ups, the Lwe project never progressed beyond the prototype stage. The demands of the war, combined with technical challenges and resource shortages, led to the cancellation of the project before any working prototypes could be built. Nonetheless, the Lwe project remains a fascinating part of tank history, reflecting the ambitious engineering efforts of Germany during World War II and the ongoing quest to develop ever more powerful and capable armored vehicles for use on the battlefield.
