The Brabham Ford BT26 F1 OW 1969 is a classic Formula One race car. Built by Jack Brabham, the BT26 was the first car to take him to a second world title in a four-year career. This car stands out for its ability to combine power and agility. Its naturally aspirated Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine produces an impressive 490hp at 10,750rpm; however, it is the car's aerodynamic design which sets the BT26 apart. Its compact and low-slung body shape means that the car has one of the lowest wind resistance drag coefficients and the highest aerodynamic downforce of any F1 car of its era. The BT26 also featured two distinctive side-pods mounted on its right side, allowing for maximum airflow through to the engine, as well as contributing to the car's stability when cornering at high speeds. The front suspension was based on double wishbones, while the rear suspension was a four-wheel independent torsion bar design. These features, combined with the car's powerful engine, gave the BT26 a top speed of 195 mph. It is no wonder then that the BT26 was so successful during the 1969 racing season, securing Brabam his second title and proving that this car truly was a milestone in racing history.
