The Brabham BT52 F1 Grand Prix car of 1981 is a unique machine due to its superior blend of turbocharged power and technological innovation. A classic of the turbo-era of the 1980s, the BT52 is the creation of driver/designer Gordon Murray. It features an aluminium monocoque chassis which houses a BMW M12/13 turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, providing a power output of 760 hp at 11,500 rpm. Forged magnesium wheels and disc brakes on the four corners ensure handling prowess and stopping power suited to the race track. Aerodynamics too, were a priority for the BT52, with an array of slats, spoilers and other devices ensuring optimal downforce and reduced drag. The orange and black colour scheme of the BT52, coupled with the iconic red and white stripes of sponsor Marlboro, represent one of the most famous and recognisable F1 cars of its era. Lightweight yet durable components and a reliable power delivery system help to make the BT52 a racing benchmark even today.
