The Brabham Alfa Romeo BT46F1, designed as the successor of the Alfa Romeo 179, was one of the most successful and iconic Formula 1 race cars of the late 1970s. It was initially unveiled in 1978 by the celebrated British racing car manufacturer, Brabham-Alfa Romeo. Built on a lightweight chassis and powered by a 3.0, 12-cylinder engine, the Alfa Romeo BT46F1 was designed for Formula 1 race events. The lengthy chassis featured a low-slung nosecone which guaranteed an unparalleled aerodynamic quality. Boasting a low coefficient of drag, the BT46F1 was no slouch when the flag dropped. The engine was mated to a six-speed transverse sequential gearbox that provided exceptional gear shifting performance and power delivery. The racecar was equipped with a lightweight 12.7-inch ventilated disc brake system, featuring multiple calipers which provided superior stopping power for the car. The suspension system was used with advanced overlapping wishbones which provided the driver with exceptional handling response and grip when cornering. The purebred Italian racer featured elegant bodywork with smooth aerodynamic curves, a riveted rear wing and a signature red livery. Ridden by the great Niki Lauda, the Alfa Romeo BT46F1 delivered many successes on the race track, taking home the coveted constructors title in 1978. Today, the Alfa Romeo BT46F1 remains a legendary machine amongst car enthusiasts and a reminder of a golden F1 racing era.
