The Arrows A5 F1 OW 1982 is an iconic British Formula One race car from the golden era of the sport. The A5 was designed and built by Arrows, a British Formula One racing team that existed from 1978 to 2002. With its classic arrowhead shape, bold livery and characteristic low angle nose, the A5 remains one of the most recognisable race cars ever to grace a Grand Prix grid. The A5 was powered by a turbocharged Ford Cosworth DFV 3.0 litre V8 engine which had a maximum output of 630 bhp. The engine was mated to a Hewland FGA 5-speed manual gearbox that drove the car to a top speed of circa 320 km/h. Its power was delivered to the rear wheels through solid axle suspension which offered excellent performance on the circuits of the day. The A5 chassis was a monocoque design, constructed from aluminium and fibreglass, and was the first Arrows car to feature power assisted front and rear disc brakes. Its slim aerofoil wings at the front and rear of the car allowed for excellent levels of downforce, while its flat-bottomed chassis gave it an aerodynamic edge over its competitors. The A5 was the first F1 car for British drivers John Watson and Stefan Johansson. The duo enjoyed a successful first season with the car, finishing 5th and 7th overall in the 1982 season, despite the car suffering from reliability issues. Today, the A5 remains a beloved member of the Formula One family, and a reminder of a golden era of the sport. As one of the most iconic F1 cars ever built, it is a true classic of motorsport.
