The Arrows A18 Formula One car of 1997 was a marvel of engineering and design. Resplendent in a striking mostly yellow livery, the A18 was a sleek, aerodynamic single-seater that was designed to deliver speed and performance. The car featured a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, with an Ionelone 7-litre V10 engine mounted behind the driver. This engine delivered up to 800 bhp, a figure that allowed the A18 to reach a top speed of 321kph. The car was handled by a Hewland VGC six-speed manual transmission, with a power to weight ratio of 500 bhp/tonne. The car also featured carbon ceramic brakes, pneumatic suspension and F1-style slicks as standard. Many other features, such as active aerodynamics, carbon fibre front and rear wings, and raised double-diffuser technology, had been implemented to allow the A18 to perform in a competitive manner. Despite its many high-end features, the Arrows A18 underperformed in the 1997 F1 season and was ultimately replaced. However, its legacy is still felt among the Formula 1 elite today.
