The CV-33, also known as the Carro Veloce 33 or L3/33, was an Italian light tankette used extensively during the interwar period and World War II. Developed in the early 1930s by Fiat-Ansaldo, it was inspired by the British Carden-Loyd tankette, incorporating its design principles for Italian needs. The CV-33 was a small, two-man vehicle with a simple and compact design, armed primarily with a single 6.5 mm Fiat Model 1914 machine gun, although some later models featured twin 8 mm machine guns for improved firepower. Its armor thickness ranged from 6 mm to 12 mm, providing minimal protection against small arms fire and shrapnel. Powered by a 43 horsepower Fiat-SPA CV3 engine, the CV-33 could reach a top speed of 42 km/h (26 mph) on roads, making it highly mobile for reconnaissance and infantry support roles. Despite its light armor and armament, the CV-33 was widely deployed by Italian forces in various campaigns, including the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, the Spanish Civil War, and World War II, demonstrating the utility and versatility of tankettes in different combat scenarios.
