Specifications Semovente da 105/25 blueprint

The Semovente da 105/25 was an Italian self-propelled gun developed during World War II, designed to provide Italian forces with a mobile artillery platform capable of delivering effective fire support. Built on the chassis of the M15/42 tank, it was intended to address the need for more powerful and versatile armored vehicles in the Italian Army. The main armament of the Semovente da 105/25 was a 105 mm L/25 howitzer, which was capable of firing high-explosive, armor-piercing, and HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank) rounds. This made it a versatile weapon, effective against both fortified positions and armored vehicles. The vehicle also featured a Breda 38 8 mm machine gun for secondary anti-infantry defense. Armor protection on the Semovente da 105/25 ranged from 15 mm to 75 mm, with the thickest armor located at the front of the vehicle to provide better protection against enemy fire. Despite this, the armor was still vulnerable to the more powerful anti-tank weapons fielded by the Allies. Powered by a Fiat SPA 15TB M42 V8 petrol engine producing 192 horsepower, the Semovente da 105/25 could reach a top speed of approximately 35 km/h (22 mph) on roads, with an operational range of around 180 kilometers (112 miles). Its mobility allowed it to keep pace with other armored units and reposition as needed to provide fire support. The Semovente da 105/25 entered production in 1943, and around 30 to 60 units were built before the Italian armistice in September of that year. After the armistice, production continued under German control, with additional units being used by German forces, who designated it as the Sturmgeschtz M43 mit 105/25 853(i). In combat, the Semovente da 105/25 proved to be an effective self-propelled gun, particularly in the defensive battles fought by Italian and German forces on the Italian front. Its powerful howitzer was capable of delivering devastating firepower against both infantry and armored targets, and its mobility allowed it to be used in a variety of tactical situations. In summary, the Semovente da 105/25 was an Italian self-propelled gun that provided a significant boost in firepower and versatility to the Italian armored forces during World War II. Despite being produced in limited numbers, it had a notable impact on the battlefield, demonstrating the effectiveness of self-propelled artillery in modern warfare. Its design and combat performance highlight the efforts of the Italian military to enhance their armored capabilities in the face of evolving wartime challenges.
