The Surtees TS19 F1 OW 1976 is a Formula 1 racing car that was designed by John Surtees, the 1964 Formula 1 champion and the only driver to have won world championships in both motorcycling and Formula 1. The TS19 featured a conventional wedge shape design, coupled with a range of aerodynamic aids such as a large rear wing, low high-mounted sidepods, an illustration of the eras use of lift-generating devices for high-speed stability. The TS19 had a Renault-Gordini V6 engine, with a capacity of roughly 3 liters. With over 500 horsepower, the TS19 was capable of a top speed of 210 mph. To tame this power, the car was equipped with a sophisticated multi-link suspension and in-board disc brakes. However, despite its reasonable performance, the cars aerodynamics limited its race-winning potential in 1976. Still, the Surtees TS19 F1 OW 1976 is a car that remains iconic to this day, thanks largely to its association with another racing legend, the late Ayrton Senna, who drove this car and won the 1975 Monaco Grand Prix. The TS19 is remembered for its angular and muscular lines, a snapshot of a time when F1 cars still had an unmistakable sense of presence.
