The Surtees TS16 F1 OW 1974 is an iconic race car that was used in Formula One during the 1974 season. Built by the John Surtees racing team, the TS16 was one of the most competitive cars in its class. The chassis of the TS16 was constructed from aluminum, and featured a honeycomb monocoque structure. It also featured a Cosworth DFV 3.0 liter V8 engine that produced an impressive 400 bhp at 10,600 rpm. The power was transferred to the rear wheels via a Hewland FG400 4-speed manual gearbox. In terms of appearance, the TS16 had a distinct shape with featureless sides and a flat nose. The bodywork featured sleek, angular lines combined with superior aerodynamics. It was equipped with a roll bar, magnesium wheels, an adjustable rear wing, and rear-view mirrors. The chassis was also fitted with a wide variety of adjustable components such as brake cooling ducts, suspension settings, and a streamlined nose cone. When it came to performance, the TS16 was unmatched in its class. The light yet rigid chassis allowed for superior cornering speeds, while the powerful engine enabled its drivers to reach impressive top speeds. Despite its success on the Formula One circuit, the TS16 was eventually replaced in 1976 by the Surtees TS19. However, the TS16 remains one of the iconic racing cars in Formula One history and is a favorite amongst collectors.
