The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was a single-engined Japanese fighter aircraft used by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service during World War II and was widely regarded as one of the most formidable aircrafts of its time. The aircraft was designed by Jiro Horikoshi and was the predecessor to the Nakajima A6M2 Reisen. The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was known for its exceptional speed and maneuverability which allowed it to outmaneuver most Allied aircraft. It was fitted with an engine that produced up to 1,130 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful fighter aircraft in the world at the time. This aircraft could reach speeds of up to 272 mph and had a range of 1,288 miles. The sleek design of the aircraft featured a short nose and a curved wing profile which created less drag in the air, allowing it to fly faster and farther than many competing planes. It was also outfitted with two 20mm cannons and two 7.7mm machine guns, giving it a formidable armament. The Zero was light and had a low wing loading, allowing it to make tight turns and perform incredible feats of aerial acrobatics. The pilot had an unobstructed view from the cockpit due to the canopy design and the canopy was also framed with bulletproof glass to protect the pilot. The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was a formidable aircraft that was effectively used during World War II. It was produced till 1945, when the war in Japan ended, by which time over 10,000 of such aircraft were produced. It is considered to be one of the greatest fighter planes of all time and an iconic aircraft of World War II.
