The MiG-31 is a supersonic interceptor that has been in production and service since 1983. It was designed to counter American military threats in the form of the F-15 Eagle and the B-1 Lancer. This 4th generation Russian fighter jet is used primarily for long-range air defense missions and can reach speeds well above Mach 2.5. It is powered by two large Soloviev D-30-F6 turbofan engines and equipped with some of the most advanced avionics available in the world. The aircraft has a wide range of integrated avionics and self-protection systems, including a defensive countermeasures suite, an infrared search and track system, and an active electronic countermeasure system. Features such as an advanced armament control system (AACS), an all-weather targeting and navigation system, and a jamming-resistant data link also contribute to its combat effectiveness. The MiG-31 is capable of mounting the latest long-range air-to-air and short-range air-to-ground missiles. With its maximum takeoff weight of over 29 metric tons, this lethal aircraft can carry a large payload and is able to climb up to an altitude of 60,000 feet in just 4 minutes, making it one of the most capable and dangerous fighters in the world today.
