The 1974 Lotus 76F1 OW is one of the most celebrated Formula One cars of all time. Designed by the legendary Colin Chapman, it was the first F1 car to feature a "wing car" design, allowing for increased downforce and improved handling through corners. A revolutionary chassis made out of aluminium and magnesium was used, and it weighed just 600kg (1320lb). The engine was a Ford Cosworth DFV, producing an impressive 485bhp, and a five-speed Hewland gearbox was fitted. It featured twin-wishbone suspension with outboard dampers and was capable of achieving a top speed of 165mph. The car was a success in 1974, with a first-place finish in the 1975 United States Grand Prix and a memorable win for Emerson Fittipaldi at the Swedish Grand Prix. The Lotus 76F1 OW revolutionised Formula One and set a new standard for excellence and innovation in motorsport.
