The GMC CCKW-352 2.5 ton truck, released in 1941, was an incredibly robust and versatile vehicle that could be used both for military and for civilian purposes in the 1940s and beyond. Keeping true to the CCKW name, meaning Converible Cargo, High-Wheel drive, this model featured a six-wheel drive system with two front axles and small eight-foot tires. This design allowed the truck to traverse a variety of terrains, from mud to rocky hills. These vehicles could carry up to 2.5 tons of payload which could be reconfigured with its built in versatility into a variety of roles such as cargo, medical, and fuel/water supply. The classic body shape of the CCKW-352 had an engine placed in the back of the truck with four doors that opened the left and right of the engine. Inside the cab there were two canvas seats and two benches built into the back. A fuel tank was mounted on the right side of the cab that could store an abundance of fuel while two removable water jugs were equipped in the back. The standard engine was GMCs 270.1 cubic inch 6-cylinder, which could put out an astounding 100 horsepower and 215 foot-pounds of torque. This robust engine was powerful enough to propel the vehicle through the toughest terrain and its five speed transmission coupled with its four-wheel drive system allowed the CCKW to easily transition from a straight line to fast turns and steep inclines. The durable and versatile design of the GMC CCKW-352 2.5-ton truck made it an incredible asset to many forces in the 1940s. From cargo hauling to transporting of personnel, this truck had the capability to be a real workhorse.
