A classic and highly sought-after relic of the post-turbo era, the Ferrari F189 F1 GPOW 1989 is a thoroughbred racing car of the highest pedigree. Manufactured to compete in the 1989 Formula One racing season, the F189 was Ferraris most successful car since the return of turbocharged engines some two years prior. Boasting a light and aerodynamic chassis, the car was powered by a 3.5-litre V12 engine developed and built by Ferrari specifically for the demands of the season. The F189 was designed to have maximum agility and driver engagement on the race track. A tight suspension package with stiff coilover shocks ensured maximum control and grip even through the tightest sequences of corners. Meanwhile, the car was equipped with slick and semi-slick tyres, giving the F189 an immense edge over its turbocharged competitors. The F189 featured a unique aero set-up with adjustable rear skirts, adjustable front wings and an adjustable rear wing. This allowed the car to fine-tune itself for top speed or greater downforce depending on conditions. The engine, which was designed by the legendary Mauro Forghieri, was a reliable and powerful component of the car, delivering up to 690bhp while a 6-speed manual transmission ensured instantaneous gear shifts. To further enable prowess on the track, the interior was equipped with digital fuel mapping, adjustable acceleration settings and a data-logging system all of which could be controlled via the carbon-fibre steering wheel. Such was the high-performance capability of the F189, that it was capable of propelling its driver to pole position in qualifying sessions. In doing so, the car became a racing icon, with collectors around the world vying for ownership of this special metal marvel.
