The Coloni FC188 Ford DFZ V8 F1 OW 1988 was a Formula One race car designed and manufactured by Coloni Motorsport. The car was designed to compete in the 1988 Formula One World Championship. In the hands of drivers Pierre-Henri Raphanel and Bertrand Gachot, the Coloni FC188 amassed 18 championship points, 24th best in the season. The Coloni FC188 featured a wide range of performances, proving its competitive edge in race conditions. To achieve this, the car featured a Ford DFZ V8 engine that was capable of producing 650 horsepower in a 3.2-litre configuration. The powertrain was then combined with a five-speed semi-automatic gearbox, which allowed for smooth and efficient transitions while racing. In terms of aerodynamics, the Coloni FC188 boasted a unique design which was quite advanced for the time. It featured a sloped nose design with a high and wide cockpit, as well as a low air intake on the car's nose. The car's rear air box also provided additional downforce through the aerodynamic winglets. All of this was then complemented by a lightweight monocoque carbon fibre composite chassis that allowed the car to remain light and agile while on the track. In order to ensure optimal handling, the Coloni FC188 was equipped with larger Pirelli tires and lightweight suspension. Overall, the Coloni FC188 Ford DFZ V8 F1 OW 1988 proved to be a competitive F1 race car for the 1988 period. Its combination of powerful powertrain and aerodynamic design allowed it to be a contender in grand prix races.
