The 1962 Borgward Isabella Coupe holds a special place in automotive history for its sleek, sophisticated good looks and unique features. A mid-sized two-door, four-seater coupe, the Isabella Coupe was first released by the German manufacturer in 1958. Known for its stylish, angular lines and distinctive clip-on headlights, the Isabella Coupe reflects the era of post-war elegance. On the inside, the most notable feature of the Isabella Coupe is its central driving position, which includes an armrest, allowing the driver exceptional comfort. The dashboard was deeply recessed into the bodywork, with four round air vents. An eight-day Klokkestoer clock ensured plenty of time keeping precision. One-piece moulded front seats, a centre armrest, and luxurious carpets adorned the interior. When it came to establishing the performance on the road, the Isabella Coupe had many features to stand out from the competition. Underneath the bonnet, the Isabella Coupe came with a 1.5 litre, SX-engined four-cylinder engine that produced up to 80bhp. The car could reach a top speed of around 95mph, with a 0 to 60mph acceleration time of 16.9 seconds. Furthermore, the car was equipped with a four-speed manual synchromesh gearbox and was available with an optional four-wheel drive system. When it came to safety, the Isabella Coupe was also impressive, with its low centre of gravity, crumple zones, a collapsible steering column, andlap belt restraints making it a safe and secure car for its time. It also featured a separate tank for its higher-spec electric fuel system, minimising the risk of fire-related injuries. In addition, safety glass was used to minimise the risk of the car's occupants being harmed in the event of an accident. The 1962 Borgward Isabella Coupe was a stunning car of its time, with its combination of good looks, comfort, performance and safety features, creating an automotive classic that has still impressed car enthusiasts many years later.
