The ATS D3/01 Ford Cosworth F1 OW 1979 is a single-seater racing car of Formula One style. It was originally created by a German designer Günter Schmid who used its styling to make a car which was aerodynamic and light weight. It was the starting grid for the 1979 F1 World Championship. The dynamic shape of the car was blended with function and high-performance. The engine is a Ford Cosworth FD with 3.0L displacement, twin overhead camshaft cylinder head and 24 valves. The car delivers 510 horsepower at 12.800 rpm. It was equipped with double suspension, using separate systems for front and rear, with coils and double wishbone control. It could reach a maximum speed of around 320 km/h. The monocoque chassis was composed of alluminium and carbon fiber. It was quite advanced for its time and could resist the high impact of Formula One racing. The body of the car was designed with sharp lines and edges, with a good focus on airflow management, helping the car to be stable and fast. The ATS D3/01 was a highly effective and efficient racing car, thanks to a careful approach to its design, materials and assembly. It was a contender in the 1979 Formula One Championship. With its competitiveness and reliability it was able to stand toe to toe with other legendary F1 cars at the time.
