The Gossamer Condor is a revolutionary, human-powered airplane developed by Paul B. MacCready and his team in the late 1970s. With an impressive wingspan of 25.4 feet and an impressive weight of only 75 pounds, the Gossamer Condor was the first human-powered aircraft to successfully demonstrate sustained, controlled, level flight. Its lightweight construction consists of a strong aluminum and mylar framework, supported by muslin and carbon fiber spars. Its gentle curve, dihedral wings provide the necessary lift, while its square tipped elevons serve as both ailerons and elevators, helping to maintain control. A sculling unit, powered by the hands and legs of the pilot, provides the required thrust.
