The Surtees TS14 Ford DFV OW 1973 is a timeless classic of an F1 car that is best remembered for John Surtees heroic championship battle against Emerson Fittipaldi and Jackie Stewart in the 1973 Formula 1 season. The TS14 was a sharply angular, light and aerodynamic car powered by a Ford DFV engine that delivered impressive performance and reliability. It featured a composite monocoque chassis made from 25 aluminium and 75 magnesium, giving it an impressive power-to-weight ratio. Its aggressive aerodynamics and distinctive bodywork featured vertically mounted cooling fans at the front of the car, and two large, vented air boxes behind the drivers shoulders. The TS14 was also the first Surtees car to feature power assisted steering. The Ford DFV engine was capable of producing an impressive 480bhp at 9250 revolutions per minute, helping to propel the TS14 to a top speed of over 200 mph. The TS14 was a formidable car that could challenge the best of the era, and its performance was largely due to the excellent engineering and design of the Surtees team. Today, the TS14 is a beloved classic amongst Formula 1 fans and is still remembered fondly for its part in such an iconic season of racing.
