The McLaren Ford M26 F1 GP OW 1977 is a grand prix racing car designed and built by McLaren for the FIA Formula One World Championship. Constructed to the regulations of the time, it measures 4.14 metres long, 1.62 metres wide, and weighs 595kg. A powerful Ford Cosworth engine powers the car, producing approximately 484 mechanical horsepower. It has a radically designed chassis with a Garalde steel monocoque structure, making use of the "ground-effect" design to fully exploit the generated downforce. Unique aerodynamic features like the protruding nosecone, wrap-around air intakes, and the large rearward-facing air scoop that houses the turbocharger for the engine all add to the overall aerodynamic shape of the car. The suspension system consists of double wishbones in the front and rear suspension that are actuated by a transverse rocker arms. The brakes are ventilated discs, operated by a dual-circuit hydraulic system. The transmission is a 4-speed manual, gearbox mated to the engine. The car is gorgeous to look at in its livery of white, orange, and green. The McLaren Ford M26 is a brilliant example of 1970s Formula One racing car technology.
