The Lotus 72C GP F1 OW 1970 is a revolutionary Formula 1 race car with cutting-edge design and engineering. Featuring the iconic wedge profile and a slimmer nose, this car was extremely eye-catching and extensively tested on the track. Built by the legendary Colin Chapman, the Lotus 72C pushed the boundaries of speed and aerodynamics. The car was propelled by a Cosworth DFV 2993 CC V8 engine, capable of producing up to 475 horsepower and up to 375 ft-lbs of torque. This engine was mated to a 5-speed Hewland transaxle manual transmission which allowed for optimal power output to the rear wheels. The chassis was made of lightweight aluminum and featured a suspension system with outboard spring and damper units, as well as an adjustable rear anti-roll bar. This suspension system provided superior grip and adept handling on the circuit. The light blue and gold exterior of the Lotus 72C served not only to make it stand out on the track, but also provided extra downforce to the vehicle. The car also had a streamlined aerodynamic design for maximum performance, with slot-type air intakes on either edge of the cockpit for additional cooling. The Lotus 72C had advanced features such as a roll-over bar, fireproof lining in the cockpit, and adjustable pedals for the drivers convenience. Together with its impressive power and design, this car would go on to win four races, making it one of the most successful Formula 1 cars of its time.
