The GAZ 63 truck was first introduced to the Soviet Union in 1948. The 4x2 truck featured a lightweight, but durable metal frame, a four-wheel drivetrain and a three-speed manual transmission. The cab sat on the central frame of the truck, giving it improved handling and stability. The front and rear axles were both conventional with semi-elliptic leaf springs. The full-frame design and selectable two-wheel drivetrain allowed the driver to change between urban and rural driving with ease. This powerful truck was also capable of a maximum speed of 44mph, making it suitable for both short and long distance transportation needs. Under the hood, the GAZ 63 featured a 2.43-liter gasoline engine with an adjustable compression rate and a maximum output of about 42 horsepower. This engine was matched with a four-cylinder, four-stroke motor that produced about 54 horsepower. Its mighty engine provided sufficient power for light and heavy hauling on the job. With its metal body, reliable engine, and easy-to-maneuver drivetrain, the GAZ 63 was a reliable and efficient work vehicle in the Soviet Union.
