The GAZ 24-02 Volga Wagon is a classic example of Soviet automotive engineering, the car was produced from 1972 to 1988 and is still recognizable today. Looking at the car, its boxy silhouette is a hallmark of Volga design, with a large body, long hood, and sloping rear. The front end consists of two, broad, rectangular headlights that sit below a flat, straight bonnet, and a slim radiator grille. The sides of the car are characteristically straight and angular, with slim windows and body-mounted door handles. The rear features two sloping tail lights set within a small, curved rear window and a more angular rear bumper. The Volga wagon has a simple, and well-built interior, which is designed to be utilitarian. Inside, the car is dominated by a large two-spoke steering wheel, and a row of simple control switches. Behind the wheel sits a plasticky dashboard with basic gauges for monitoring your cars performance. The manual gearbox sits in the center console and the manual, roll-up windows add to the timesless nature of the Volgas design. In terms of upholstery, the colors tend to be muted blacks, blues, and greys and the fabric is tough and durable. Under the hood, the car is powered by a 2.4L petrol powerplant which produces around 80bhp, and the car can be found with a choice of standard four-speed manual and optional five-speed automatic transmissions. The mechanicals of the Volga wagon are simple and reliable, so theyre far less likely to suffer from mechanical damage. All-round drum brakes and column-shift give the car its character, and with rear wheel drive, the car isnt afraid to make its presence known on the road. The fact that this car is still in production today speaks volumes for its reliability.
