Specifications Fittipaldi Copersucar FD5 F1 OW 1977 blueprint

The Fittipaldi Copersucar FD5 F1 OW 1977 is a single-seater racing car produced by Fittipaldi, a Brazilian auto racing team. Built for the 1977 Grand Prix season, the car was designed by world-renowned aerodynamicist John Player Special and powered by a 3.0-litre Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine. With its distinctive yellow and blue colour scheme paying homage to the Copersucar corporate livery, the Fittipaldi Copersucar FD5 was a formidable machine. The chassis of the Fittipaldi Copersucar FD5 was relatively narrow, measuring just 183 cm in width the narrowest of any F1 chassis at the time. The half-metallic monocoque chassis was made of aluminium and steel, coupled with a magnesium alloy body. It was constructed with two structural members: at the front, a large aluminium semi-monocoque with adjoined cruciform elements, and at the rear, a ladder-like, tubular frame. The car also boasted aerodynamic excellence, thanks to its advanced aerodynamic design. It featured a steeply angled nose, a 120-degree inlet, and a large dorsal fin. The rear wings were adjustable, while it also featured the first implementation of a synthetic drag reduction system (DRS) a now ubiquitous feature in modern F1 regular seasons. The Fittipaldi Copersucar FD5 was powered by the ubiquitous Ford Cosworth DFV V8 engine, attached to a Bosch fuel injection system. Combined with the advanced aerodynamic design, this engine gave the car a maximum power output of over 500 hp and a maximum speed of up to 340 km/h. The car was driven by the Brazilian Formula One legend Emerson Fittipaldi and his veteran teammate Lamberto Leoni. It achieved some excellent results in the 1977 season, including five podium finishes and, notably, Fittipaldis first and only victory at the 1977 Austrian Grand Prix. The car was retired for the 1978 season and replaced by the Copersucar FD06. The Fittipaldi Copersucar FD5 F1 OW 1977 will be forever remembered as one of the most successful cars ever to race in Formula One.
