The Copersucar FD02 F1 OW 1975 (built for the 1975 Formula One season) is one of the most iconic and recognisable cars to have ever been taken to the track. Developed and manufactured by Fittipaldi Automotive, run by former two-time Formula One World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, the FD02 was a unique chassis, featuring very distinctive styling, making it an instantly recognisable machine. Featuring a unique fan car design, the FD02 was the first of the Fittipaldi branded cars to be used in Formula One and it utilises an aluminium monocoque chassis, with the cockpit located quite far forward, giving the car a unique look. It is powered by a Ford DFV 3.0-litre V8 engine, producing a maximum of 520 bhp, which is then distributed to the rear wheels via a Hewland five-speed transmission and a Hewland FGA differential. The suspension is a double wishbone design, with a push-rod operated coil over shock absorbers at all four corners. A four-valve cylinder head, Lucas electronic fuel injection and a Marelli transverse ignition distributor help keep the FD02 going. The exterior of the FD02 is unmistakable, with its sleekly shaped bodywork and pointed nosecone. The body is made from lightweight fibreglass and is finished in the classic gold-yellow-red livery of Copersucar, the Brazilian sugar and alcohol conglomerate who supported the team. The front wings are also very distinct, with their high mounted angle, inspired by the "enormous wings seen in American racing". The car also features a pneumatic rear wing, another of its unique design features. The Copersucar FD02 is a timeless car, loaded with history and significance. The car and the team achieved some memorable results on the track and is a much loved car by many people today. As one of the most recognisable Fittipaldi cars, it will be remembered as a classic of its era and an icon of Formula One.
