Specifications FIAT Dovunque 35 Armoured Car Truck 1941 blueprint

The Protected SPA Dovunque 35 is a rotated armored troop transport vehicle, produced in Italy and used by the Black Brigades of the Italian Social Republic during the Second World War. From 1938, within the Royal Army, the requirement for a troop transport vehicle for the Bersaglieri Regiments and for the infantry of the armored divisions was emerging. Viberti already presented in 1941 a prototype based on the SPA Dovunque 35 truck, however technical doubts (the excessive weight of the armor on the chassis not expressly designed) and doctrinal doubts about the use of such a vehicle did not transform the project into a contract. . The prototype remained in the Viberti workshops until 11 November 1944, when it was requisitioned by the Black Brigade Ather Capelli of Turin. Meanwhile in 42 the definitive version had been defined, with the roof of the transport compartment covered. With the precipitate of events, in April 1945, the specimens still nearing completion at the Viberti workshops, in the covered and uncovered version, were requisitioned by the various factions. At least three were requisitioned by the Republican forces of the RSI. Of the two vehicles requisitioned by the partisans, one was destroyed with a panzerfaust by a legionnaire of the 29. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (italienische Nr. 1) (the Italian SS division). The vehicle is based on the extensively modified 6x4 SPA Dovunque 35 off-road truck chassis. The general layout, with the walls of the transport compartment angled, is inspired by the German troop transport half-tracks Sd.Kfz. 251. The hull is made from 10 mm thick riveted armored plates. The front engine is protected by a short nose with angular fins to protect the radiator. The driver on the right and the foreman on the left are located in the cabin the view is guaranteed by two windows protected by an armored door access to the cabin is via two side doors. At the rear, the cabin continues with the transport compartment, in which 10 soldiers are placed on benches leaning against the inclined walls. The ascent and descent of the team takes place via a rear door in two elements. For board combat, military personnel can use their personal weapons through four loopholes on each side and two on the rear. The final project envisaged the armored cover of both the cabin and the transport compartment, with three large hatches available to the crew, but this cover never appears on the photos received.
