1985: it acquires a new generation of engines inaugurated by the Autobianchi Y10 in 1984: the FIRE. Completely new engine and very modern design allowing a marked improvement in efficiency and consumption without comparison with the competition. Fiat also presents the Uno Turbo IE version with a 105 hp engine boosted by an IHI turbo, jetronic electronic injection mated to microplex electronic ignition, an oil cooler and rear brake discs. The engine was fitted with sodium-cooled valve seats, a solution hitherto reserved for sports cars. The rest of the range benefits from improvements: new interior trim, improved electrical and anti-corrosion system, adoption of Magneti Marelli electronic ignition on the 1,116 cm3 (which increase to 58 hp) and 1,301 cm3. The luxurious SX disappears in favor of an SL, available in 60 and 70 hp versions. That same year, the barrier of one million Fiat Uno manufactured in Italy was reached, the 2,000,000 mark was reached the following year, the 3,000,000 in 1988.
