The Ferrari 555 Supersqualo is a racing car built in 1956 by famed Italian manufacturer Ferrari for the 1956 Argentine GP. The car was the first ever F1 car for Ferrari to feature a V8 engine. It was the first car of its kind to sport a shark-style fin down the crest of its long, sleek body, earning it the nickname Supersqualo, a descendant of Lancias legendary D50 model. With its distinct, slanting nose and shark-like tail, the car retains a timeless appeal that is unique in its class. Under the low-slung bonnet lies a powerful 2.5-litre V8 engine, fed air through the two, NACA-style intakes on the side of the car, and cooled by twelve air vents at the back. Where the D50 has eight, Ferrari 555 successfully took a cue from the American mid-century jet fighters, constructing an engine capable to produce over 320 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. The engine is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox with the now-iconic H-pattern shift. Thanks to the incredible design of the 555 and the power of the V8 engine, the car handles beautifully, performing in ways that rivals its era simply couldnt match. Its lightweight tube-frame chassis and magnesium drum brakes contribute to its superior performance and for these reasons, the Ferrari 555 Supersqualo is celebrated as one of the greatest racing cars of all time. It is an iconic reminder of Ferraris illustrious history in F1 and is a prized possession among owners and collectors the world over.
