The Ferrari 312T2 was a Formula One racing car used by the Ferrari team during the 1977 season. This machine was a heavily modified version of the 312T series of cars, with a number of distinct design features that would set it apart from other F1 cars of the era. The front of the cockpit offered greater visibility for the driver, while the rear engine cover was designed to reduce drag and improve engine cooling. The car featured a transverse gearbox, which gave it better traction out of corners and improved driver control. The cars also featured a pneumatically controlled differential, resulting in smoother gear changes and improved acceleration. Underneath the sleek bodywork of the 312T2 lay a 3 litre flat-12 engine that produced around 521 BHP, capable of pushing the car to speeds of nearly 200 mph. The wide, flat radiator opening was designed to cover the entire width of the car, helping to cool the engine and brakes more effectively. The 312T2 proved to be a reliable, competitive racer, and was famously driven by Niki Lauda to his second world championship.
