The DKW 900 Kombi Schnellaster Van was a revolutionary vehicle of its time, introduced in 1959. This van provided business owners around Europe with a reliable, spacious and efficient means of transporting supplies or goods on a daily basis. This was the first commercial vehicle to feature the 3-cylinder two-stroke engine, which has since been popularized in other vehicles. The Kombi Schnellaster was designed to accommodate up to eight passengers, although four was the most comfortable number. It featured a flat dashboard, two doors and a rear-loading access door for any items that needed to be transported. The 900 was equipped with DKW's newly patented 3-cylinder two-stroke engine, which provided the van with a fast and powerful drive. As such, it had a top speed of approximately 85 km/h. It featured a light blue color scheme, with white highlights around the windshield and the hood, underscoring its sleekness. The exterior was made of chrome-plated metal and featured a striped side trim on both sides. In order to maximize storage capabilities, the roof of the van also featured a canvas cover that could be rolled up or down to hold large items. The interior of the van was equally impressive and was designed to be comfortable for the driver and passengers with high-quality fabric upholstery, as well as a roomy footwell for maneuverability. The seating arrangement consisted of two swivel chairs towards the front, two fixed chairs at the back, and a foldable third row. In addition, the DKW 900 Kombi Schnellaster Van was equipped with advanced features including a temperature gauge, an odometer, and even a clock. It also featured a radio with a loud speaker mounted on the front of the dashboard, making it ideal for long journeys. All in all, the DKW 900 Kombi Schnellaster Van represented an impressive piece of engineering for its time and is still remembered fondly today.
