The Citroen 11CV Traction Avant Sedan is a vintage French car renowned for its innovation. When it was released in 1934, the 11CV Traction Avant was the world's first mass-produced front-wheel drive car and featured a monocoque unibody construction. This design enabled the vehicle to be lighter and stronger than predecessors that featured a traditional chassis construction. The 11CV was also one of the first cars to adopt an independent front suspension, with a simple transverse leaf spring and anti-roll bar combining the functionality of a coil spring. This advance improved both the comfort and control of the car's ride. Externally, the 11CV Traction Avant was an elegant, understated design with a recognisable shape that has survived into modern classic cars. The two-door sedan had a low drag coefficient with a low-slung look achieved by the flat hood and a long wheelbase. The large grille with Citroen-branded tricolors emphasized the engine bay, while the large headlights and taillights combined with indicators gave the 11CV a modern look for its day. The interior was also focussed on the driver, with a centrally positioned instrument panel and a simple two-piece bench seat. Today the 11CV Traction Avant is a popular collectible car, particularly in France where its long history and engineering developments are recognised and admired. The classic car retains a classic, timeless feel while its engineering advancements and owner appreciation are a testament to its success.
