The Bentley Java is a unique concept car presented at the 1994 Geneva Motor Show. It was designed by Roy Ax of Design Research Associates. Although this is only a show car, 18 were produced and sold to Mohammed Mandari and then sold to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, the current Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. They were 6 coupes, 6 convertibles, 6 station wagons. They were built on a BMW 5 Series platform. The engine was modified by Cosworth. The Java concept was eventually realized in the form of a Bentley Continental GT, a smaller, cheaper, more attractive and mass-produced Bentley Continental GT. Some design elements, such as the shape of the dashboard, were carried over to the Continental GT.
