Specifications 1962 Alvis TD21 blueprint

The Alvis TD 21 is a car produced by the British car manufacturer Alvis from 1958 to 1963. It was a revised version of the Alvis TC 108G and its body was built by Mulliner Park Ward. The 2993 cc six-cylinder in-line engine was boosted, producing 115 hp mainly thanks to a new cylinder head and an increase in the compression ratio from 8.0: 1 to 8.5: 1. Also new was the Austin-Healeys four-speed gearbox and a three-speed automatic transmission from BorgWarner was offered as an option. The overdrive function was made available on the manual transmission between the end of 1960 and 1962. The suspensions were similar to those of the Alvis TC 21, independent with coil springs in the front and semi-elliptical leaf springs in the rear, but the track was increased by 25 mm to 1410 mm and an anti-roll bar was adopted at the front. Spoked wheels were optional. Starting in 1959 the four-wheel drum brake system was replaced, in favor of the discs in the front, but keeping the drums in the rear. The TD 21 was available in two-door sedan and two-door convertible versions. A car with manual transmission was tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1960 and recorded a top speed of 166 km / h and acceleration from 0 to 97 km / h in 13.5 seconds. Fuel consumption stood at 14 L / 100 km. In April 1962, Series II was introduced. The braking system was again modified, with the adoption of Dunlop disc brakes on all four wheels instead of the mixed disc / drum system. The doors were made of aluminum to contain the weight. The fog lights previously fixed abroad of the bumper, were integrated into the bodywork, recessed in the middle of new circular air intakes. The position of the license plate and rear lights was revised. In October 1962 the Austin Healey four-speed gearbox was replaced with a more modern five-speed ZF Friedrichshafen. In 1961, a special version of the TD 21 convertible was built specifically for Prince Philip of Edinburgh. Some Series II frames were bodied by Graber.
