Specifications 1940 Alvis Speed 25 DHC blueprint

The 4.3-liter Alvis and Alvis Speed 25 were luxury passenger cars announced in August 1936 and manufactured until 1940 by the English manufacturer Alvis Car and Engineering Company in Coventry. These models replace the 2.8-liter and 3-liter Alvis Speed 20. They are widely regarded as one of the finest cars produced in the 1930s. The 2.5-liter, 2.8-liter and 3.0-liter four-main-bearing engines were replaced in the 4.3-liter and 3.0-liter Speed 25s by a new seven-main in-line six-cylinder unit. For the 3.5-liter version, a power of 110 hp at 3,800 rpm was claimed (and proven) with a top speed of nearly 160 km / h2. It propelled the occupants at high speed in exceptional luxury accompanied by the pretty music of a powerful, deep and hoarse exhaust. Her beauty is confirmed by winning two years in a row the prestigious Ladies Choice VSCC Oxford Concourse. The clutch, flywheel and crankshaft were balanced together, which kept vibrations to a minimum. The cylinder head is made of cast iron, but the pistons are made of aluminum. Two electric fuel pumps power the three SU carburettors, which were protected by a large air filter. A new induction system incorporated an efficient silent device.
