Specifications Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger (P) blueprint

Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger (P), also known as Tiger (Porsche), was a German heavy tank prototype developed during World War II by Ferdinand Porsche. It was designed as an alternative to the Henschel-designed Tiger I, competing for a production contract with the German Army. The Tiger (P) featured a formidable armament centered around an 8.8 cm KwK 36 L/56 gun, identical to the one used on the later Tiger I tanks. This gun was highly effective against Allied armor and fortifications, making the Tiger (P) a formidable adversary on the battlefield. It also mounted a coaxial 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun for engaging infantry and soft targets. In terms of armor, the Tiger (P) boasted heavy protection with frontal hull and turret armor up to 100 mm thick. This provided excellent defense against most contemporary anti-tank weapons and projectiles, enhancing its survivability in combat situations. Powering the Tiger (P) was a Maybach HL 210 P45 V-12 gasoline engine, producing 650 horsepower. This engine propelled the tank to a top speed of around 35 km/h (22 mph), which was typical for heavy tanks of its era. Its operational range on roads was approximately 110-120 kilometers (68-75 miles), adequate for its intended battlefield roles. Despite its promising design and impressive specifications, the Tiger (P) faced challenges during its development, including mechanical reliability issues and the competition with the Tiger I design by Henschel. Ultimately, the Henschel version of the Tiger I was chosen for mass production due to its simpler construction and easier manufacturing processes. The Tiger (P) prototype nevertheless contributed to the evolution of German heavy tank design concepts and served as an important development platform for future armored vehicles in the German Army during World War II.
