The Renault RE40 F1 GP car was a force to be reckoned with in the 1983 Formula One Season. It was a bold statement designed by legendary Renault engineer Gerard Ducarouge and designed to win at any cost. The RE40 was powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre V6 Renault engine, producing around 600 bhp. The aerodynamics of the car were considered revolutionary at the time and featured prominent air ducts that increased the cars downforce. The RE40 featured double wishbone suspension, a semi-automatic transaxle gearbox and slick semi-slick tyres. The car excelled in dry racing conditions and was credited with helping Renaults successful assault on the 1983 Constructors Championship. The RE40 could reach speeds of up to 325 km/h, meaning that drivers would experience serious G-forces when cornering. Despite its success, the RE40 was also remembered for its unconventional style the car featured an unusual stepped nose section which caused major aerodynamic disruption. Despite its radical styling, the RE40 was one of the most successful cars of the 1983 season and its bold engineering has been remembered ever since.
