The Mazda R360 Coupe is an icon of the Japanese automotive industry. Produced in 1962, it was one of the first mass-produced Japanese vehicles, and quickly became an international sensation. The exterior of the vehicle boasts a unique and striking classic design, with an elongated, curvy body and circular headlights that resemble those of the now-famous Bug Eye Mini. It was the first four-wheeled Kei car, with a short wheelbase and length of just 10.5 feet. It had a practical four-seater layout that could easily accommodate four adults. The interior was simple but elegant, with wood-rimmed dashboards and upholstered seats in a variety of fabrics. The R360 was powered by a tiny 360cc two-cylinder engine, connected to a four-speed manual transmission. This engine produced just 18 horsepower, enough to propel the car to a top speed of 60mph. It was also economical a full tank of fuel could power the R360 for up to 240 miles. Despite its modest performance, the R360 was celebrated for its good build quality, low operating and maintenance costs, and its status as a milestone in Japanese automotive history.
