The MAZ 43740 Truck is a 1990 Soviet medium-weight, 3-axle truck, part of the Minsk Automobile Plant's (MAZ) medium-duty truck range. Manufactured between 1976 and 1994, the MAZ 43740 was used primarily for civilian and military transport applications, as well as towing and hauling heavy loads. A characteristic of the MAZ 43740 is its solid build quality, engineered to withstand the wear and tear of difficult workloads in all conditions. The vehicle features a powerful 6-cylinder, 4-stroke, naturally aspirated M-254.10 diesel engine, with the capacity to produce up to 222 horsepower at 2300 r/min. This engine is coupled with a five-speed transmission, resulting in strong performance combined with impressive fuel economy, and a top speed of around 50 mph. In addition to its robust construction, the MAZ 43740 features a five-person cab, with forward seating, windscreen wipers bracketed to the top of the windscreen, and two large wing mirrors. It also possesses a suspension system composed of front and rear leaf springs, helping to reduce the likelihood of a breakdown. Other practical features translate to rainfall collectors, side bins, and deep storage compartments, all of which allow for easy carrying of additional loads. Finally, its exterior is extremely rugged and is finished in one of two military grade enamel colors – light green and dark green. This is to be expected from a military vehicle, and important to note when considering its ability to stand up to wear and tear of coarse terrain. All in all, the MAZ 43740 is a reliable and resilient bulk transporter, characterized by great power output and a rugged design.
