The Lancia 037 Rally Coupe (1982) was a car of quintessential Italian engineering: a powerful and agile beast, as good on the racing track as it was on the roads. Its name references the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and the marquess successful 037 rally car models. With a front-mounted, supercharged four-cylinder engine, the 037 offered a range of performance options that could be tailored to meet the demanding needs of drivers in any discipline. The coupes bodywork was designed with aerodynamic efficiency in mind, and featured a rear spoiler to optimise downforce, rubber skirts, and rear window louvers for improved ventilation. Within the cabin, a range of sporty details added to the cars clear racing heritage, from the Momo sports steering wheel and sports seats, to the Alcantara die-cast dashboard trims and brushed alloy instrumentation. The 037 was also well-equipped when it came to power. Its 2.0-litre engine produced 200 horsepower (making it the most powerful Abarth-built car at the time), while its five-speed manual transmission (featuring a dual-disc clutch) allowed for quick and effortless shifting. These components were put to good use on the racing track, where the 037 notched up class wins in the 1983 World Championship, 1984 British Rally Championship and World Rally Championship. The cars handling was also excellent, thanks to its double wishbone suspension system and adjustable shock absorbers. As a result, the 037 was capable of cornering and other maneuvers at considerable speeds. The Lancia 037 Rally Coupe (1982) was a car of impressive refinement and technical sophistication. Its balance of power and handling would make it a formidable force on the rally stages, and a memorable ride on the road.
