The Honda RA302 F1 V8 OW 1968 is a single seater Formula One race car that the Japanese manufacturer Honda raced during the 1968 Formula 1 season. It features a 3.0 litre V8 engine and is the first and only Honda car to win a F1 race. The chassis of the RA302 was designed by the legendary racing car designer Lola Cars, and combines a lightweight aluminium monocoque with a suspension system taken from the RA271 F1 car. The engine was also derived from the previous seasons design, and produced around 520 hp at 12000 rpm. Its aerodynamics were designed in the wind tunnel at the Honda Research and Development centre in Japan. The RA302s livery is iconic, with a bright blue, yellow and white livery. The car was driven in the 1968 F1 season by Jo Schlesser, Ronnie Bucknum and John Surtees. Unfortunately, its life was tragically cut short when Schlesser crashed it at the French Grand Prix, resulting in a fatal accident. Despite its short-lived life, the legacy of the Honda RA302 F1 V8 OW 1968 will remain for many years to come, a reminder of the potential of Honda in the racing world.
